Job Summary UCSF Aquatics makes life better here by inspiring fitness & providing opportunities to learn to swim through safe, fun, & diverse programming. UCSF boasts three swimming pools across two campuses; an outdoor rooftop pool voted best outdoor pool in SF, and two indoor pools, including a deep water pool on the Parnassus Campus. We offer a diverse array of aquatics programming including an excellent lifeguard service, American Red Cross Learn to Swim programing and certification courses, a US Masters swim team, and a water exercise program.
We are looking for a passionate aquatics professional to join our team, who can envision a new aquatics program and develop a strategy to actualize their vision and draw in membership. This is an excellent opportunity for an Aquatics Manager who is excited to lead a large and diverse group. The Aquatics Manager will lead a team of over 85 staff consisting of lifeguards, coaches, and instructors. The Aquatics Manager will have an opportunity to develop a comprehensive recruitment, training, and professional development program for the aquatics staff. They will also have the opportunity to rebuild and create new programming to meet the needs of UCSF faculty, staff, and students, and the greater community.

Manages the daily operations for programs such as instructional fitness, aquatics or other recreational activities. Has autonomy to analyze and resolve problems and determine appropriate action. Supervises aquatics program leaders / instructors. Provides recommendations for the development of program budgets and oversees implementation and monitoring of budget, inventory and other resources. Makes recommendations for policy changes.
Under general direction of the Assistant Director, Fitness Facilities, this position develops and manages the operations, facilities, and programming of the Aquatics unit at UCSF. The incumbent is responsible for program planning and management, coordinating staff scheduling, facility operations, managing risk and safety, and program promotions as it relates to the identified program area. This position performs in-depth analysis and works as a team or independently to administer complex existing projects/programs and contributes to service enhancements/improvements. The incumbent must be aware of current industry trends and have field experience. Incumbent will design safe and effective programs, implement and supervise said programs for UCSF students, Fitness & Recreation members, and the UCSF community; and perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to maintenance and management of equipment and facilities.
The position is independently responsible for overseeing pool chemical and maintenance by UCSF Facility Services, engineering team, Fitness and Recreation Building Maintenance Workers, and outside pool service vendor. Overseeing pool chemical maintenance and pool mechanical maintenance.
The position is responsible for oversight of required certifications for Aquatics staff for lifeguards and instructors. These include the following for lifeguards:
CPR/AED for Lifeguards, validity period one year, course time is 5 hours Lifeguarding and First Aid Training, validity period three years, course time 32.5 hours First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22), validity period three years, course time 15 hour The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. our placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $61,200 - $130,600 (Annual Rate). Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and five or more years of related experience including 3+ years of lead/supervisory/manager experience; and / or equivalent experience / training.

- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer (active or obtained within 1 year of hire)
- Professional aquatics experience.
- Professional experience and proven ability to lead aquatics programs
- Professional experience and proven skillset, knowledge and ability to maintain swimming pool equipment and chemicals
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Strong knowledge of program activity and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated strong leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across the organization, internally and externally in non-routine situations.

Preferred Qualifications
- 3 or more years in professional Aquatics Management
- Certified Pool Operator certification.
- Knowledge of UCSF policies and procedures a plus.
- Experience using CSI PMS Software.
- Strong knowledge of campus policies and procedures.
