Marketing & Mobilization
Marketing & Mobilization (M&M) is a diverse team that is tasked with building the IRC's global profile and brand, growing private revenue from deeper donor engagement and partnerships, and influencing our target audiences. The team is responsible for all of IRC's brand, communications, creative and content and digital engagement efforts. In alignment with our Strategy100 commitments, M&M has launched compelling multi-year campaigns that raise funding, profile and influence and will improve our share of voice and resonance in key geographies and globally. Lastly, they consistently work on innovating the IRC brand, which enables us to increase awareness, understanding of and support for our work so that we can raise more money and change policies to improve our crisis-affected clients' lives around the world.
Global Public Affairs & Communications
Global Public Affairs, a part of the Marketing & Mobilization (M&M) team, targets priority IRC markets and audiences to advance and protect our policy goals, brand and profile. It's a key part of external messaging and product development, distribution and coordination for External Relations. The team uses proactive and reactive earned media (broadcast, digital & print) to support policy and income objectives, while also using frontline storytelling to advance our cause.
Job Overview:
The Communications Manager helps build the IRC's profile, influence, funding and support of the International Rescue Committee, its humanitarian programs, leadership, and solutions. S/he will stay abreast of the media landscape in the IRC's key markets and work on special strategic projects, key external relations products, track metrics, help protect IRC's reputation and provide overall support to the team to achieve its strategy and KPIs. The Communications Manager must have a genuine interest and background in humanitarian aid, refugee resettlement, asylum, and integration, and in public relations. The Communications Manager will support managing and upgrading IRC's global media relations systems and processes.
Major Responsibilities:
* Stay abreast of the media landscape in the IRC's key markets on issues and concern for the IRC, including humanitarian aid, refugee resettlement, asylum and integration.
* Draft press releases, feature pitches, talking points, op-eds, and key messages.
* Review and update web articles and social media content for organizational alignment and accuracy.
* Maintain and track updates for communications messaging documents, ensuring regular updates, fact checking and organizing for easy access to the wider organization.
* Respond to media queries-providing written statements, arranging interviews, preparing staff as needed.
* Assist on communications initiatives including working on media briefings/roundtables/external appearances and talking points for spokespeople/leadership.
* Regularly update the IRC's Muck Rack media databases and build targeted reporter lists.
* Contribute to regular reports on media coverage, content results, tracking metrics/KPIs using industry standard metrics and benchmarking.
* Support project management workflow, knowledge management, internal systems, processes, tracking, and streamlining cross team collaboration, including through tools like Monday.com.
* Provide support on signoff processes for HQ and Public Affairs teams during Eastern Time working hours, particularly during the early days of breaking emergencies.
* Lead development of news roundups, as needed, and support in managing communications inbox and editorial calendar.
* Develop and update onboarding materials for new staff and strategy documents and help support team with recruitment and vendor procurement.
* Provide surge media outreach support during emergencies, as indicated by the US Communications Director and/or Director of Global Public Affairs and Communications.
* Support on HQ special projects as needed.
* Foster environment that exhibits the IRC Way and GEDI values.
Key Working Relationships:
Position Reports to: Associate Director, US Communications
Education and work experience
o Minimum: Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, international affairs or related field or equivalent 3-6 years of professional experience in communications, media or advocacy preferably with a focus on international affairs or issues that cross with the humanitarian sector.
o In house/agency communications preferable
o 2-3 years of professional experience working as part of a communications and media team
o Superb interviewing, writing and pitching skills.
o Experience working with media
o Experience writing press releases, messaging documents and talking points
o Experience tracking metrics and producing analytics reports
o Ability to juggle multiple priorities and produce high-quality outcomes on a short deadline
* Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
Minimum:
o Demonstrates a flexible approach and ability to navigate ambiguity, as well as multiple projects and priorities at once.
o Ability to work effectively, efficiently, diplomatically, and calmly in a fast-paced environment on issues that are often sophisticated and politically sensitive.
o Experience in producing and editing, under tight deadlines, accurate and dynamic communications materials including press-releases, op-eds, and talking points.
o Experience supporting communications efforts
o Demonstrated success collaborating across different teams without managerial authority
o Record of creatively using compelling content across different channels (media, social, web etc.) to achieve of communications objectives
o Knowledge of Monday.com, Muck Rack, Meltwater, Factual, and/or Foresight News a plus
Working Environment: Standard office work environment.
This role may require working remotely full or part time and part time remote employees may be required to share workspace.
Compensation:
Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

We offer a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits.
