Position Highlights	The Palumbo and Cavin's laboratories are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on several projects to investigate the biology, ecology, and management of insect pests important in vegetable and citrus crops grown in Arizona. One component of this projects is to monitor insecticide resistance in citrus thrips and western flower thrips and establish baseline susceptibility of the populations of these thrips species across Arizona to new insecticides. We are seeking a highly motivated and creative individual with a strong background in applied entomology with quantitative /computational ecology skills to join our Vegetable IPM and Specialty Crop IPM laboratories. The incumbent will have responsibilities in all areas of translational research and outreach for insect pests important to leafy vegetables, melons, and citrus crops production such as diamondback moth, western flower thrips, Bemisia whiteflies, citrus thrips, and the citrus mite complex. Duties & Responsibilities	Assist in designing field and greenhouse/laboratory research studies, collection and management of data, statistical analysis, and summarization of results for scientific presentation and publications in peer reviewed journals. Participate in new and existing efforts to secure competitive funds including grant-writing, budgeting and reporting with assistance and input from the PIs and assist in preparing periodical and annual reports of research activities from the PIs' laboratories supported by grant monies. Assist in writing manuscripts and publishing research articles in peer-reviewed journals. Be the responsible for all areas of translational research and outreach for insect pests important on leafy vegetables, melons, and citrus crops such as diamondback moth, western flower thrips, Bemisia whiteflies, citrus thrips, and citrus mite complex. Supervise and train interns and summer staff in Drs. Palumbo and Calvin's laboratories. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Possess excellent writing skills and an established scientific publication record; - Have excellent communication and organizational skills; - Have the ability to travel to the field sites and work independently; - have highly effective interpersonal skills including the ability to work cooperatively with research faculty, producers, and co-workers;
Minimum Qualifications	PhD degree in Entomology or closely related field, plus research experience in crop protection; Expertise in field-oriented entomology research, statistics, chemical control, and biological control; Broad IPM expertise.
Preferred Qualifications	Possess some experience of farm equipment operation, mechanics and electrical systems; Demonstrate experience coordinating workshops or similar group activities.
