The Ignite Internship Program is an 11-week, full-time experience that offers a sneak peek into the world of insurance. Level up your skills and knowledge by diving into your business area of choice. As an Underwriting Intern, you'll have a chance to build your business acumen by supporting the underwriting department's growth and profitability goals, making meaningful contributions to the business. Underwriting involves assessing risks and determining the terms of insurance policies, making it a critical function in the financial industry. This internship offers a unique opportunity to develop analytical skills and gain insights into risk management, which are highly valued in many career paths. Please note, this is a hybrid position, therefore, applicants must be within commuting distance of our Hunt Valley, MD location. Responsibilities Engage in underwriting functions pertaining to the lifecycle of a policy; including new business quoting, issuing policies, renewal processing and changes/endorsements. Assist in profitability initiatives through flagging accounts, adding renewal notes, and reviewing accounts to see if they meet our improvement criteria. Support various tasks including fixing errors made by our productivity bots, handling simple policy changes, along with other administrative duties. Qualifications Knowledge and Requirements Must be a current college student to qualify (rising juniors and seniors preferred). Demonstrate an interest in learning about the insurance industry. Experience with Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint is preferred but not required. College credit can be earned depending on your institution's requirements. Education and Experience High School Diploma required. Ideal internship candidates will be full-time undergraduate college Juniors or Seniors, with the ability to perform at a professional level. The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs. Pay Range USD $19.00 - USD $22.00 /Hr.
