Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
Student Wellness envisions a thriving campus culture that is safe, equitable and well. As a health promotion and prevention office, we educate, advocate, support and promote individual and community health and well-being. Through partnerships with other campus departments, community agencies, student organizations, and peer mentors we use evidence informed public health strategies to foster an environment that creates, emphasizes, and supports healthy choices and positive decision making regarding health, safety, and wellness. We are a fast-paced, high performing office that utilizes a holistic, topic-integrated, and evidence-based comprehensive approach to wellness, and are seeking experienced professionals to join our interdisciplinary team. |
Position Summary |
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC-Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. Student Wellness is seeking a dynamic and creative Health Messaging Coordinator to join our health promotion and wellness team. The Health Messaging Coordinator will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of marketing and communication strategies to promote Student Wellness programs and services, with a particular focus on enhancing our digital presence and engaging the student body at UNC-Chapel Hill. Key Responsibilities:
- Digital Content Creation & Strategy: Design and execute digital communications strategies, including content creation, graphic design, website updates, and supporting social norms campaigns.
- Health Messaging & Promotion: Develop culturally relevant and evidence-based messaging aimed at promoting healthy behaviors, positive decision-making, and social change within the student population.
- Collaboration & Brand Alignment: Work closely with departmental staff and other university colleagues to plan and execute compelling, accurate, and where possible, evergreen health communication and marketing initiatives that maintain a consistent and engaging voice across all platforms. Ensure content reflects the mission, vision, and services of Student Wellness, and aligns with University and Student Affairs style guidelines and branding standards.
- Social Media & Outreach: Contribute to social media efforts for Student Wellness programs, assist with program outreach through events such as tablings and information fairs, and help develop presentations, infographics, and departmental reports.
- Content Evaluation: Analyze and report on metrics across owned media platforms to assess the effectiveness of communication efforts and drive continuous improvement.
The Health Messaging Coordinator reports to the Director of Student Wellness. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Graphic design experience, with a working knowledge of various design software (i.e. one or more of the following platforms: Adobe Creative, In Design, Illustrator, Canva, Dreamweaver, etc.)
- Experience with WordPress and Google Analytics.
- Knowledge and experience with social media and content marketing, and the willingness to stay up to date on the latest trends in these areas.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze digital content metrics, identify opportunities, and craft content and messages to achieve established goals.
- Fundamental knowledge of health promotion and primary prevention best practice theories and strategies and how these translate to communication and marketing strategies;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts and information clearly and effectively with an awareness of target audiences and stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across the organization and across campus.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, manage, and deliver on multiple, deadline-driven projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail as evidenced by minimal errors.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and professional judgement.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Demonstrated understanding of the opportunities within the owned and earned media space.
- Working knowledge of social norms theories and principles.
- Experience with photography and videography a plus.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply health education and prevention principles, theories, and practices to a broader campus setting.
- Expressed understanding and passion for promoting holistic wellness as model for engaging students in health promotion and prevention.

- Ability to move up to 25 lbs., with or without accommodations, while preparing program materials for outreach.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
