Job Summary: The Chief Technology Officer provides leadership and direction for data center operations, telecommunications, system administration, networking, enterprise application support, and OIT operations. Manages spending for infrastructure, software, and services in coordination with the OIT business office. Ensures high-quality, reliable, and secure technical infrastructure and services with 24x7x365 support. Assists in leading strategic planning for all of OIT and developing initiatives, methodologies, and road maps for continuous improvement to performance, capacity, and availability management. Implements an integrated structure for academic and administrative computing. Provides vision, leadership, strategic planning, and coordination of information technology, media, networking, and telecommunications at the University. Develops and advances IT policies, standards and processes. Manages vendor relationships with key technology providers.

Additional Department Summary: Reports directly to the Vice Provost for IT and CIO and works closely with the IT executive team and decision makers in other departments across the campus to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. Works closely with central and campus-based technology professionals and academic and administrative advisory groups to develop the strategy and planning for technology resources and infrastructure throughout the University. Provides leadership, guidance, and monitoring for IT projects. Assists with development of action plans and responses to IT audits. Reviews proposed new solutions for appropriateness and fit into the UA technology portfolio. Ensures employee development and certification activities for technical employees are being achieved. Monitors planned change activities to ensure change management reviews are performed. Develops, reviews, and coordinates the selection of solution providers via approved procurement practices including RFPs. Implements new technologies. Evaluates emerging trends. Maintains a high level of current technology deployments and operations.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and fifteen (15) years of IT experience; OR master's and thirteen (13) years of IT experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage various groups of people providing technology support for the University community. Broad range of knowledge about project management, hardware, operating systems, networks, disaster recovery planning, technology sourcing, procurement processes, vendor relationship management, and personnel management.

Preferred Qualifications: Leadership, vision, and broad technical knowledge relative to media, computing and communications-related areas. Experience with budgets and finances. Ability to articulate a vision beyond the confines of the traditional compartmentalized role of an information technology expert. ITIL or similar certifications or formal training and experience in IT operations and service delivery across a varied constituency. Experience in an enterprise-wide infrastructure to include a mixture of UNIX and Wintel services support.
