Senior Engineer- Machine Integration Lead

The Senior Machine Integration Engineer leads engineering development activities within Product Development for mobile cleaning equipment products on new product development and large-scale lifecycle management efforts at Tennant. This position primarily works as the Machine Integration Engineering Lead on a cross-functional team to design and develop innovative electro-mechanical machines that meet requirements for performance, quality, product cost, and project timelines.

Additionally, this role leads and contributes to technical product strategy development including: product platform and architecture development, product simplification improvements, technology and innovation concept development, product roadmap inputs, and project strategy phase execution.

Responsibilities



  • Applies Tennant's New Product Development process and principles of engineering and science to lead the development of product designs at the machine and subsystem level that achieve customer requirements, company standards, government regulations and cost targets
  • Collaborates closely with and Product Management, subsystem leads and external partners to achieve program goals
  • Leads in the development of overall system architecture
  • Establishes machine and subsystem development plans and schedules from concept to production implementation within overall business requirements
  • As engineering project lead, tracks and reports progress to the cross-functional program leaders and engineering management
  • Responsible for preliminary layouts, models, sketches and/or schematic diagrams to aid in the understanding and solution of engineering problems and communicating this to all project stakeholders
  • Identifies and investigates technology developments relevant to assigned subsystems
  • Leverages laboratory and field test data to understand and manage design trade-offs
  • Leads team to create designs, specifications, and drawing releases
  • Leads and participates in formal/informal design reviews
  • Plans and supports machine and subsystem verification and validation testing
  • Leads the production launch and implementation of product and subsystem designs
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers and designers throughout the development cycle


Required Experience and Education



  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited four-year college or university
  • Minimum three years of experience with electro-mechanical systems integration
  • Broad technical knowledge in the design and development of mechanical and computer controlled electromechanical systems
  • Previous experience in technical project leadership
  • Experience with requirements management tools
  • Experience with task management and issues tracking
  • Ability to model and predict system performance based on engineering principles
  • Ability to effectively present information to a variety of internal and external groups



Preferred Education and Experience:



  • MS in Engineering or MBA
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Six Sigma experience
  • Six to Ten years of mechanical design engineering experience
  • Experiences in systems integration across multiple systems such as battery power management systems, steering control systems, machine propel and braking systems, human user interface (HMI) control systems, solution/fluid delivery systems, air flow & filtration systems, motorized mechanisms, robotic & autonomy systems
  • Experience with FMEA analysis
  • Experience in requirements decomposition, development, authoring, and verification
  • Experience with Requirements Management Tools (e.g. Visure, DOORs, Jama)
  • Experience with authoring and maintaining interface control documentation
  • Experience with task management and issue tracking tools (i.e. Jira)
  • Experience with developing engineering standards
  • Experience with Machine level dimensional analysis
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and supporting system modeling tools (e.g. Cameo, SysML, MATLAB Simulink)
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks)
