Sports & Enrichment Lead - Weekley

Position Summary:

Provides direction for the program to staff on game days, during practices, and at camps and academies. Provides a quality experience to participants and parents that focuses on youth development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  1. Promotes and incorporates the YMCA five core values and character development model into all program activities.
  2. Treats all participants, parents and staff with dignity and respect.
  3. Assists and supervises program activities. Makes sound decisions in alignment with YMCA program standards. Ensures that all staff adhere to program standards.
  4. Sets up equipment for games and practices.
  5. Supervises program area at all times to ensure safety.
  6. Listens to concerns, answers questions and addresses coaches, players and parents in a calm, fair and professional manner.
  7. Immediately reports problems, inappropriate behavior or situations to Director.
  8. Monitors play to oversee the safety of players and ensures the particular sports and YMCA rules are followed as needed.
  9. Assists with sports department inventory of equipment.
  10. Provides training assistance and additional support to staff, offering extra training when needed.
  11. Assists Director in forming teams and schedule planning for games and practices to prepare for upcoming seasons.
  12. Assists Director with identifying and coordinating volunteer coaches to ensure all teams have coach.
  13. Supports marketing initiatives by creating promotional flyers for clinics and leagues using Association tools.
  14. Works with Director to ensure proper implementation of sports procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff.
  15. Attends mandatory trainings and meetings.
  16. Assists in YMCA annual fundraising and special events.
  17. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

1. At least 21 years of age.

2. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training upon hire.

3. Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.

4. Must have a keen desire to work with children and have the ability to relate to them in a positive, patient, sensitive and non-judgmental manner.

5. Must possess basic knowledge of sports.

6. Must have flexible schedule to work weekends.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Prior childcare experience. Sports related knowledge in a youth setting is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, run, stoop, and kneel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Possess adequate vision to monitor safety and enforcement of game rules.

HOURS

Flexible with scheduling and available to work operational hours of the YMCA, which may include day, evenings and weekends.
