Job Summary

This opportunity will be approximately 3 months in duration.

UCSF Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Hospital Assistant II to support our Orthopaedic Institute team. Under the supervision of the Practice Supervisor and Manager, this role assists in patient care within a multi-specialty ambulatory group practice, focusing on positive patient outcomes, performing clinical tasks, and supporting healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Care:

  • Conducts clinical procedures: vital signs, pain screening, documentation of medications.
  • Prepares exam rooms, assists in patient exams, and conducts medication reconciliation.
  • Performs cast application/removal, assists with crutches/canes, and documents all care activities.
  • Ensures x-rays are ready and performs lab tasks and specimen handling as directed.

Communication:

  • Adheres to UCSF Telephone and House Standards.
  • Coordinates with health team members, and assists patients with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Actively contributes to clinic/practice improvements and supports collaborative teamwork.

Operations & Maintenance:

  • Maintains examination rooms, adheres to infection control protocols, and manages supplies.
  • Completes safety checks on medical equipment and maintains a secure work environment.

Additional Duties:

  • Assists with administrative duties, including form preparation and cross-training for various clinic functions.
  • Covers multiple pods as needed and ensures open communication with staff and patients.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications


  • 1 year of relevant Medical Assisting experience
  • Active AHA BLS/CPR certification

Preferred Qualifications


  • Phlebotomy certification
