Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist II for the department of Neuroscience and Cell Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers University.

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, is responsible for the management of a medium-sized laboratory area. Designs and conducts highly specialized and technical research investigating the molecular mechanisms of the circadian clock. Supervises work of other members of the laboratory and may be assisted by lower-level professionals.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Generation and maintenance of genetically modified mouse lines. This involves handling mice for breeding, animal husbandry, tail-clipping, earpunching, and PCR genotyping. May also require injection and dissection of animals used in the research activity.
  • Perform experiments using western blotting, qRT-PCR and immunostaining. Assess animal circadian behavior and circadian molecular rhythms using tissue culture system.
  • Provide technical training to new lab members to develop the skills necessary to perform the required functions. Supervise the work of undergraduates and Master's students in the lab. May conduct performance evaluations of non-professional staff members.
  • Assist in the establishment of performance standards as well as the selection of methodology and instrumentation. Assist with development of budget proposals for the laboratory area.
  • Maintain lab equipment and provide training for new users; maintain the inventory of lab supplies.
  • Assist with the preparation of proposals, formal applications and justifications for grant applications; prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Compile and present statistical data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations pertinent to research activity.
  • Organize lab meetings. Ensure research compliance of all lab members. Prepare IACUC and IBC protocols.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • PhD or Master's Degree in a relevant science plus 3 years of related research experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • FACS and Western Blotting skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years preferred in at least 4 of these areas (PCR, RTPCR, molecular cloning, in vivo luciferase assays, in ovo electroporation in chick embryos, immunohistochemistry, RNA in-situ hybridization).
