Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) is responsible for administration of the extramural research grants and contracts to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. RSP currently manages an open portfolio of over $4 Billion with annual awards over $1.5 Billion. The duties and responsibilities of this research administration position include the financial administration and accounting of grants and contracts awarded to the University of Wisconsin-Madison by Federal and Non-Federal sources.

The Cost Analyst's main responsibility is to actively participate in and assist with the preparation and negotiation of the University's Facilities & Administrative (F&A) Cost Rate Proposal with the federal government. The Cost Analyst will collaborate with a broad range of University personnel to coordinate the collection of and/or correction of space and/or facilities related data, collection and analysis of sponsored programs data, and modelling and visualizing data.

In addition to leading the development of the University's F&A rate proposal, other responsibilities include analysis of the sponsored programs data including standardizing reports, operational metrics, facilitating optimum management of sponsored programs portfolios.

The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to prepare and maintain appropriate documentation to support the cost proposal process, and the capability to interpret and communicate complex federal guidelines.

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree
Preferably in Data Science, Business, Accounting, or closely related field. Master's Degree in one of these fields is strongly preferred.


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

-Demonstrated experience constructing and analyzing large data sets, ensuring data accuracy and addressing data quality issues;
-Demonstrated ability to read and interpret federal regulations and guidelines;
-Ability to communicate complex data analysis results to stakeholders in an easy-to-understand way, including reports, interactive visualizations, and presentations;
-Ability to investigate operational processes and sources of data to construct meaning and draw conclusions while understanding the limitations of the data with a strong attention to detail and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

- 2+ years of progressive experience working with data collection and analysis;
-Financial analyst or accounting experience, especially university sponsored programs accounting;
-Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau);
-Experience and knowledge of SQL;
-Experience with federal F&A/indirect cost rate development;
-Experience working with the Comprehensive Rate Information System (CRIS) software from Maximus;
-Proficient with general inferential statistical and predictive modeling concepts and techniques.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $70,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The starting salary for this position is $70,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. This position will receive a comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off, competitively priced health/dental/vision/life insurance, tax-advantaged retirement savings accounts, and participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension fund.
