Job Summary The Senior Photography Laboratory Technician plays a pivotal role providing operational and instructional support in the photography labs. Responsibilities include maintaining the day-to-day operations of both an analog and digital photography lab environment along with a lighting studio. Duties include working with faculty to provide instructional support, overseeing open lab time for students, leading the work of student workers, lab preparation and maintenance, inventory control, overseeing equipment checkout, maintaining compliance with material safety guidelines, and documenting standard operating procedures. This position serves as the lead purchaser supporting the Art and Humanities Department career and technical education programs. Essential Functions 30% Responsible for the daily set-up, operation, and breakdown of classroom, laboratory, and studio environments. Ensures that all equipment is in good working condition and ready for instructional use. Maintains and monitors instructional supply needs and troubleshoots any inconsistencies associated with daily operational requirements. Reports any damaged equipment or unresolved computer and software problems to IT or program faculty. In collaboration with faculty, assists with and develops policies and procedures for lab and studio experiences. 30% Provides faculty support during in-class demonstration and technique-based follow-up in a digital, analog and studio environment. Monitors student compliance with safety and workflow processes to ensure proper protocols are followed. Assists students with the use of the lab and studio equipment, computers, printers and software during open studio time. Supports students in the preparation, use, and breakdown of equipment and supplies, ensuring that all proper use and safety protocols are followed. 20% Oversees purchasing and inventory monitoring for lab supplies and equipment for the department's career and technical education programs. Tracks stock levels, orders materials and equipment as directed, coordinates with vendors, and maintains an accurate inventory database. Ensures that students and faculty have access to necessary resources for coursework and projects, supporting the operation of the lab and studio facilities. Follows all college and District purchasing and fiscal administrative policies. 10% Maintains equipment to ensure it is in proper functional order to support photography curriculum. Organizes preventative maintenance schedules, repairs existing equipment where possible, and troubleshoots technical concerns through appropriate channels. Develops and maintains vendor lists for supplies, repairs, and purchasing needs. 10% Perform other duties commensurate to grade level of position. Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of experience such as providing assistance to students in an instructional setting; and/or preparing, maintaining and delivering equipment, supplies or other related instructional materials used for laboratory activities in area of assignment. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. Desired Qualifications A. Degree in photography B. Experience working in Adobe Creative Suite C. Experience with operation of digital/film cameras, lenses, lighting, studio equipment and related gear D. Experience with purchasing and/or working with vendor agreements E. Experience working in a customer service environment F. Experience working in an analog and digital darkroom G. Experience in analyzing and/or interpreting data to make informed decisions in areas such as file maintenance and inventory Special Working Conditions
