Printpack is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position ofMechanical Engineer Level II in Atlanta, GA. The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, or equivalent, typically with 4 years of applicable engineering experience. Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) license preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
  • This level performs work that involves conventional engineering practices but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting or competing design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials or systems, and difficult coordination requirements.
  • Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties.
  • Interacts with plant associates at multiple levels at each stage of the project to gather data, understand operations methods, get design input, get buy-in for solutions, and get help to optimize the systems.

POSITION SCOPE:

As a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter of the functional area of the assignment, plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. This level requires sufficient professional experience to assure competence as a fully trained engineer.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed solutions and plans.
  • Interacts with plant associates at multiple levels at each stage of the project to gather data, understand operations methods, get design input, get buy in for solutions, and get help to optimize the systems.
  • May coordinate the work of other engineers, drafts persons, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum

Experience: 4 years of applicable engineering experience. Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Possesses the skills of a Level I engineer plus the interpersonal skills to coordinate major projects involving several disciplines and outside resources.

  • Possesses the ability to check and approve engineering layouts using Computer Aided Design software (AutoCAD).

  • Possesses the ability to make major decisions involving production equipment, plant layouts, support equipment, facilities design, and construction methods.

  • With the assistance of Supervision, possesses the ability to write major production equipment specifications, purchase contracts, and, with the assistance of others, can negotiate these purchases.

  • Provides leadership on innovation and new technology.

  • Possesses the ability to manage several minor and major projects at the same time, with minimal assistance of Supervision.

  • Possesses the ability to create detailed project schedules to include identification of the critical path and resource leveling (using industry standard scheduling software).

  • Possesses the insights and interpersonal skills to mitigate conflicts involving associates within the company or between associates within the company and outside the company (including foreign cultures).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & TRAVEL:

Physical Demands: The associate will be exposed to the manufacturing environment where hazards and requirements may include but are not limited to use of Personal Protective Equipment, ladders, noise above 80 dB, handling objects weighing up to 50 lb., solvent fumes, and inks.

Travel Requirements: Travel is required to various facilities to support projects 30-40% per year. Some International travel is required.

WORK CONDITIONS:

The majority of tasks will be performed in an office environment while sitting at a workstation. When working in the field, incumbent may be required to work on the plant floor, make long walks to review existing conditions, take measurements, etc. Position is typically a Monday-Friday day position, except for working in plants or supporting projects which may result in longer hours for periods of time.
