About the Job

The University of Minnesota Medical Laboratory Sciences Program is seeking a full-time faculty member for the Twin Cities campus in their NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Sciences program. The position requires instruction and guidance of students, participation in curriculum and program development, engagement in quality improvement and advocacy, as well as curricular, recruitment, scholarship, and service activities in execution of the MLS Program mission.

Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties and responsibilities are assigned by the Program Director or negotiated at the annual review and documented in the annual faculty development plan.

Teaching Curriculum and Instruction (70-85%)
* Develop and teach professional level medical laboratory science students using active-learning approach to course content delivery
* Contribute to curriculum development and evaluation
* Academically advise students and provide student support as needed
* Teach professional online and in-person professional development offerings

Scholarship (5-15%)
* Contribute to the program's scholarship agenda.
* Undertake and carry-out publishable scholarship in medical laboratory science or related fields

Service (5-15%)
* Serve the Program, University, region and nation in ways that align with Program, institution, and profession initiatives.
* Engage in professional society activities that promote the program and the profession

Professional Development: Develop and maintain ongoing competency in the breadth and depth of knowledge in the profession. Maintain current certification through continuing education, continue personal growth within the profession, keep current with the field,
and broaden knowledge and expertise.

Qualifications

Required/ Essential Credentials and Experience
* MLS or MT certification
* Master's degree or doctorate in MLS/CLS, Education, or related field
* A minimum of three years' work experience in MLS practice
* Agreement to abide by University and ASCLS Code of Ethics
* Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred/ Desired Credentials and Experience
* Earned doctorate in MLS, Education, or a related field of study
* Expertise in Microbiology or Molecular Diagnostics
* Evidence of successful teaching of medical laboratory practitioners or students
* Evidence of online teaching skill and course development using technology-enhanced learning pedagogy
* Evidence of strongly-developed developed team skills
* History of professional or scholarly publications
* Documented history of course development using technology-enhanced learning pedagogy

About the Department

The University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy is nationally recognized for excellence in preparing pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists, occupational therapists, and medical laboratory scientists to tackle society's toughest problems in Minnesota and across the globe. The College of Pharmacy offers degrees in the programs of pharmacy (PharmD, MS, PhD), occupational therapy (OTD), and medical laboratory sciences (BS, Certificate, MMLS, MS-BLS).

The pharmacy program is offered on the Twin Cities and Duluth campuses. The occupational therapy program is offered on the Twin Cities and Rochester campuses. The medical laboratory sciences program is offered on the Twin Cities campus. Interactive technology is used to keep all campuses connected.

Medical Laboratory Sciences

The University of Minnesota's Medical Laboratory Sciences program has led the MLS profession for over 100 years and is known throughout the field for its cutting-edge research and innovative educational models.The University of Minnesota's Medical Laboratory Sciences program is the only accredited 4-year baccalaureate degree program in a public institution in the State of Minnesota.

Students enrolled in our program receive a world-class education in one of the country's premier Medical Laboratory Sciences programs.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: The College of Pharmacy minimum salary for this position will be no less than $80,000 annually.

Annual salary and any associated start up package offered by the College of Pharmacy will depend on education/qualifications/experience and be determined during the offer portion of the hiring process.

The minimum University job classification, Assistant Professor (9403) salary is $51,178.
