Hours: 3pm - 1130pm or 11pm - 7:30am

Job Summary
Performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic laboratory tests on environmental, blood and body fluid specimens as prescribed by physicians or healthcare providers in the technical area of Hematology. Processes and analyzes all specimens submitted for clinical analysis by performing required tests, reporting results to appropriate personnel, and maintaining instrumentation utilized.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor degree in Hematology, Biology, Basic Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science and Graduate of an approved program in Medical Laboratory Science required; or previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist under March 14, 1990 rules (Medicare/CLIA '67) on or before February 28, 1992.

Experience
Minimum one year of experience in all areas of the Laboratory or Hematology Department. New graduates from an accredited school of Medical Technology are considered to have one year of Laboratory experience in all areas of the Laboratory.

Licensure and/or Certification
ASCP or NCA certification required, or ASCP or NCA eligible with certification achieved within 6 months of employment

Skills
Must have the ability to take action based on review of policies, protocols, procedures and methodologies.
Requires knowledge of basic laboratory methods and analytical principles in Hematology.
Working knowledge of automated and manual laboratory equipment.
Manual dexterity sufficient to effect venipuncture and safely handle specimens, calibrate equipment, etc.
Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.
Good knowledge of quality control principles.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, outside agencies, vendors and fellow staff members.
Computer skills.
Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
