Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams serving dams, mining and public sector clients. This person must be experienced in civil engineering design and analysis related to site layout, grading and drainage, mass earthwork, etc. Work will involve technical assignments including design with CADD modeling software, construction plans and specification preparation, spreadsheet preparation, site development design, report writing, large-report preparation, construction cost estimating, construction observation, and facility inspection. Assignments may also include working directly with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials.

Administrative responsibilities may include task management, project planning, and scheduling. The work may require travel for out-of-town assignments of at least 50 percent of the time during the first two years of employment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering

  • 2+ years of related work experience including civil design and construction of civil earthen structures

  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D or other CADD-based civil design software

  • Flexible working style, self-initiative, self-motivation, and a willingness to work with teams to meet clients' needs and project schedules

  • Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of results

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In addition to two years experience, two internships with experience completing quality control and/or observing construction of civil earthen structures

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within one year

  • Familiarity with hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software

  • Familiarity with geologic/geotechnical modeling software

  • Familiarity with quality control practices and procedures for placement of soil materials to construct civil earthen structures

  • MSHA Certification

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Denver, Colorado, office.

Compensation:

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $65,000-$85,000. Compensation will vary based on experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus. NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
