Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
Campus Health (CH) is a multi-specialty ambulatory college health clinic providing quality, and affordable health care for eligible students and spouses. Annually, CH has more than 80,000 patient encounters, which includes Primary Care and Women's Health as well as specialty clinics in sports medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, physical therapy, counseling and psychological services, travel clinic and allergy clinic. Weekend acute care is provided from 8-5 PM. On site ancillary services include pharmacy,
OTC pharmacy, Student Stores pharmacy, medical laboratory, and radiology.
Campus Health has been continuously accredited since 1986 by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. All personnel are trained in the concepts and principles of Performance Improvement and serve as team members and leaders in shaping and defining the organization as it strives to provide quality and safe care.
Campus Health collaborates with Student Wellness and Campus Recreation and other Student Affairs partners to provide education and outreach to assist in keeping the campus population healthy.
Education and research comprise another important function of CH. CH provides clinical rotations and practicums for students in the School of Education, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and Public Health, Department of Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Health and Radiology. In addition, CH serves as a research site for a number of faculty and graduate student grants and contracts, where CH staff participates with the principal investigators across a variety of medical specialties. |
Position Summary |
The Coordinator of Referrals and Admin Support Services is responsible for the student referral operation at Campus Health. The range of duties centers on three main areas: referral coordination, patient accounts administration and academic intervention coordination.
Referral Coordination:
* This position will manage Internal, External,
STAT, Urgent and Routine referrals from either a Campus Health provider to another Campus
Health clinic,
UNC Health or an outside community specialty clinic.
* Communicate with patients and community providers to schedule appointments or initiate referrals with a specialist within the time frame
specified by the patient's Campus Health
PCP.
* Obtain Prior Authorization when necessary.
* Ensure patient is being referred to a provider who is considered in-network with their insurance.
* Educate patients about potential out-of-pocket costs based on their individual health policy benefits. .
* Transmit relevant medical records to specialist from referring provider and vice versa.
* Manage referral tracing process in electronic medical record.
* Act as the liaison between the provider, the patient and the specialty clinic to successfully complete referral.
* Communication to patient regarding referral details via secure electronic messaging.
* Meets Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (
JCAHO) standard timeline for outstanding open and pending
referrals.
* Coordinate care with medical specialists outside of Campus Health to treat medical conditions.
Academic Intervention Coordination:
* Collect required paperwork and medical documentation from requesting student and scan into practice management system for review by
Campus Health medical staff.
* Advise student what specific documentation is required based on the nature of their request and provide direction on how to obtain it.
* Communicate with student and/or their academic advisor re: status of request or final decision.
* Assist students who need to withdraw from a class/semester of classes.
* Assist students to formally request medical underload.
Patient Account Administration:
* Posting
EFT insurance remittance advice.
HSA, credit card and patient payments.
* Prepare daily deposits.
* Post
EOB payments.
* Split Pharmacy payments
* Work monthly aging reports.
* Verify student status in Connect Carolina and eCW. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Previous experience with referrals and prior authorizations.
* Comprehension of medical terminology.
* Familiarity with
CPT /
ICD-10.
* Demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
* Professional verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to independently prioritize a variety of assignments and to complete them with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. |
