Are you a passionate and dedicated mental health professional? Join our Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP)!

The Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) is currently seeking a permanent, full-time Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) to provide mental and behavioral health treatment and service. You will join a team of professionals to develop and maintain the treatment milieu for the assigned living unit(s) and support and maintain a dynamic environment that moves youth through a developmental and reformative process that promotes the acceptance of responsibility, healthy habits, productive lifestyle, and socially acceptable conduct. In cooperation with the Living Unit Manager (LUM), the Skills Development Coordinator, and unit Case Coordinator (CC), the QMHP provides leadership to their assigned living unit and across facility units for implementing and sustaining evidence-based intervention in a group living environment.

Your Role:

  • Develop and monitor unit treatment schedules to ensure that youth are receiving the services identified on their case plan.

  • Participate in community groups, one on one meetings, and other activities to model appropriate relationships and to allow for youth and staff to have meaningful participation in the program.

  • Monitor behavioral and mental health case plan domains, long and short-term goals, determining appropriate clinical and youth development interventions, etc.

  • Perform professional casework in counseling and guidance of youth.

  • Develop unit guidelines and protocols to inform the living unit on best practice approaches in dealing with trauma-based reactions.

  • Provide clinical consultation, technical expertise, advice, and training for staff on appropriate ways to attend to youth who present with mental and behavioral health needs.

  • Work with the MDT to develop and oversee the living unit behavior management system including any point/level or grading and tag system, tag or level reviews and ensures that it is in alignment with best practices, is strengths based, and is developmental in design.

  • Leads the MDT in the development of special programs, youth incentive or restrictive programming and ensures programs are balanced with appropriate treatment and skill building opportunities, restrictions, and are developmental in their approach.

  • Conduct treatment (groups or individual sessions) with youth dealing with specific mental/behavioral health programming needs and or on elevated suicide precaution programs aimed at crisis prevention and youth wellness.

  • Conduct family therapy as indicated and as youth families are available.

  • Engages in clinical consultations with treatment service supervisor, the consulting psychologist/psychiatrist/PMHNP to review youth progress, therapy, and paperwork.

  • Monitors, assesses, and provides intervention for suicide risk with youth.

  • Staff youth with other facility QMHPs and Program Director during weekly meetings

  • Provide crisis assessments and assess youth suicide risks

Working Conditions: Must be able to work under the following conditions with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • All OYA locations are tobacco-free environments.

  • Counseling and casework management is performed in a group living milieu. This may involve the treatment of emotionally unstable clientele, and the danger of physical assault is present.

  • Daily face to face contact with adjudicated youth and youth from the Department of Corrections who may exhibit hostile, aggressive or assaultive behavior. This position is expected to enforce rules and to restrain youth during crisis situations.

  • May be subject to a hostage situation.

  • Employees are subject to recall during facility emergencies.

  • May deal with angry and hostile family members and visitors.

  • Weekend, holiday, or evening work may be required.

  • Stand-by, or on-call duty may be required.

  • Travel to other OYA locations or to training throughout the state may be required.

  • There is potential exposure to communicable diseases. The consistent and effective use of appropriate infection-control materials and techniques is required.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A Bachelor's degree in nursing or occupational therapy AND licensed by the State of Oregon AND three years of progressively responsible experience related to the series concept; OR

  • A Master's degree in psychology; social work; recreational, art, or music therapy; or behavioral health science AND two years of progressively responsible experience related to the series concept.

Special Qualifications:

A Qualified Mental Health Professional at the time of application.

NOTE:To be qualified as a Qualified Mental Health Professional you must have:
* Graduate degree in psychology; or
* Bachelor's degree in nursing and be licensed by the State of Oregon; or
* Graduate degree in social work; or
* Graduate degree in a behavioral science field; or
* Graduate degree in recreational, art, or music therapy; or
* Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and be licensed by the State of Oregon:

AND

Education and experience which demonstrates the competencies to identify precipitating events; gather histories of mental and physical disabilities, alcohol and drug use, past mental health services and criminal justice contacts; assess family, social and work relationships; conduct a mental status examination; document a multiaxial DSM diagnosis; write and supervise a treatment plan, conduct comprehensive mental health assessment; and provide individual, family, and/or group therapy within the scope of practice.

  • Preference given to those candidates that have received licensure in their discipline.

  • Certificates and/or work experience related to substance use treatment.

  • Certificates and/or work experience related to adolescent mental health treatment (group and individual therapy).

  • Strong clinical skills with adolescents and young adults, with the ability to provide clinical work independently.

  • Experience providing treatment in gang affiliation, anger management, fire setting, and violent offending.
