Position Summary:
A full-time position at the Researcher 5 level is being offered at the University of Minnesota with the manure nutrient management and water quality team. We are seeking a self-motivated and meticulously organized individual to manage an on-farm research program as well as assist with outreach for our research and Extension programming. This individual will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) of the team and farmers across Minnesota to create annual project plans and ensure resources and staff are in place to meet project goals and schedules. Other responsibilities will include creating research-based educational materials for manure-related research and occasionally speaking at events and/or conferences in conjunction with the PI. The expected start date is December 2024 or earlier and salary will be commensurate with experience. This appointment will be annually renewed contingent upon funding availability and satisfactory job performance.

Job Duties:
30% Design, plan, implement, summarize, and evaluate on-farm research projects annually across Minnesota under supervision of PI, remaining current on technological and scientific developments in the field and their potential application into experimental plans. Collect, organize, and ensure samples are analyzed appropriately in conjunction with other team staff.

20% Recruit farmers and agricultural service providers for on-farm research, communicate with them regularly, and summarize and report individual results to farmers annually. Organize on-farm research summit every other year, inviting speakers and presenting summative data gathered from research.

20% Confer with other team personnel in drafting work schedules and plans for execution of the research. Assist with other projects as needed. Hire and oversee undergraduate researchers in collaboration with other team personnel if needed.

15% Prepare educational materials and presentations on team research projects, including written reports, web materials, videos, ArcGIS Storymaps, and PowerPoint presentations. Work with PI on publication of these materials.

10% Present research-based materials at events and conferences.

5% Discuss and plan new avenues of research and outreach funding. Assist in drafting proposals to procure funding.

Travel
* This position requires frequent travel within the state, and occasionally outside of it.
* There may be work evenings, occasional overnight, and/or weekends, particularly during the growing season.
* This person must have a valid driver's license and access to use of a cell phone for work purposes.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Advanced degree with 1 or more years of research training in soil science, agronomy, agricultural engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline in the agricultural sciences.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with public speaking and/or scientific outreach. Experience with Extension or Agricultural Education are a bonus.
* Experience with livestock systems and/or animal manure
* Experience with collecting and analyzing samples in field and laboratory settings

This position is in the Wilson Lab in the Department of Soil, Water, and Climate in CFANS on the St. Paul, MN campus of the University of Minnesota.
